[팝송 쉐도잉 2일차] 영어 초짜의 Clean Bandit(클린 밴딧) Rather Be 듣기

 

 

 

오늘은 영어 팝송 쉐도잉을 시작한 지

이틀 째 되는 날입니다.

그래도 매일매일 일차를 세면서 하니

그래도 동기부여도 되고 좋은 것 같습니다.

 

 

이 노래는 인터넷을 돌아다니다가

얼마 전에 처음 들은 노래인데요.

노래가 귀에 계속 맴돌아서 요새 자주 듣는 노래입니다.

 

일단 오늘 제가 잘 안 들렸던 부분을 

전체 가사 중에 빨간 글씨로 체크하겠습니다.

나는 영원히 기다릴거야, 경치에 감탄하며

 

이 문장은 제가 모르는 단어가 끼어 있어서

못 들었습니다.

'exult'를 사전에 쳐보니

'기뻐하다'

그런 뜻을 가지고 있더라고요.

'scene'은 '경치'라는 뜻을 가진 명사이니

경치를 보고 기뻐하다, 감탄하다

이렇게 해석하면 될 것 같습니다.

 

발음은

 [ɪɡˈzʌlt]

익'절ㅌ

 

이렇게 읽으시면 될 것 같습니다.

'트'를 'ㅌ' 발음으로 쓴 것은

영어를 한국식으로 너무 정직하게

'으' 발음을 넣는 게 많은 사람들이

안 좋은 습관이라고 하기 때문에

저렇게 표현했습니다.

이것도 모르는 숙어가 들어있어서

몰라서 못 들었다고 생각합니다 ㅎㅎ

 

'a shot in the dark'를 사전에 쳐보니

억측, 어림짐작, 확실하지 않은 것

이라고 나오더라고요.

그냥 해석해보더라도

어둠 속에서(in the dark) 쏘는 것은(shot) 정확하지 않으니

이렇게 연상하시면 될 것 같습니다.

우리는 우리의 마음속 평화를 찾는 사명을 수행했다.

 

여기도 숙어가 들어가 있는데요.

우선 

'on a mission to 동사'

는 -에 대한 사명(임무)이 있다.

이런 뜻이더라고요.

 

문제는

'stake out'

인데

사전을 보니

1. 의견을 분명히 밝히다

2. 은밀히 감시하다

3. 잠복근무하다

 

이 정도 뜻을 가지고 있는데요.

아마 3번 뜻으로 쓰이지 않았을까 추측해봅니다.

정확히 잠복근무라는 의미보다는

미션을 수행했다는  것과 같이

뭔가를 수행했다

이런 의미로 쓰인 게 아닐까 생각됩니다.

Kyoto to The Bay

교토에서 더 베이까지

 

여기서 

'kyoto'

라는 지명이 나왔는데요.

일본의 그 교토입니다.

근데 이 발음이 교토가 아니라

제가 듣기에는

키요도

이렇게 들리더라고요.

 

갑자기 지명이 나왔기도 하고

발음도 제가 생각하는 발음과 매우 달라서

잘 안 들렸던 마디였습니다.

 

 

이렇게 팝송 듣기 2일 차 노래는

클린 벤딧의 'Rather be' 였는데요.

전의 마룬 5의 노래보다는

가사가 잘 들렸던 것 같습니다.

물론 제 듣기 실력이 늘었다기보다는

이 노래의 난이도가

생각보다 쉬웠던 것 같습니다.

 

어쨌든 내일도 불금이지만

게으름 피우지 않고

팝송 듣기 이어나가도록 하겠습니다.
